Sumatra Orangutan trekking

At Sumatra Tour Adventures, we specialize in authentic Sumatra orangutan trekking and eco jungle experiences in Bukit Lawang. Led by experienced local guides, we offer private and small-group adventures deep inside the tropical rainforest of Gunung Leuser National Park.

Whether you are looking for a one-day jungle trek, multi-day rainforest expedition, or a relaxing eco retreat, our team is ready to create unforgettable memories in the heart of Sumatra.

The Wildlife of Gunung Leuser National Park

Nestled in the heart of northern Sumatra, Gunung Leuser National Park is one of the world’s most important rainforest ecosystems and a true paradise for wildlife enthusiasts. Covering vast areas of tropical rainforest, the park is part of the Leuser Ecosystem, the last place on Earth where critically endangered orangutans, elephants, tigers, and rhinos still share the same natural habitat.

For decades, visitors from around the world have traveled to Bukit Lawang for the chance to observe wild orangutans in their natural environment. Yet orangutans are only one of the many incredible species that call this rainforest home. The park is also home to siamangs, Thomas’s leaf monkeys, long-tailed macaques, hornbills, monitor lizards, giant squirrels, and countless other fascinating animals and plants.

Whether you choose a short introductory walk or a multi-day jungle expedition, every trek offers a unique opportunity to explore one of Southeast Asia’s richest biodiversity hotspots. Our treks range from a few hours to several days, making the rainforest accessible to families, nature lovers, photographers, and adventurous travelers alike.

  • Camping is only allowed in designated areas with the appropriate permits.
  • Flash photography, excessive noise, and any behaviour that may disturb wildlife are prohibited.
